Selection Matrix

Written Score And The Selection Matrix

I have come across this question often. Many a times bank aspirants ask to me, what score should be considered a safe zone for the final selection?
My first advice is that, till the whole recruitment process is over, none of the candidates know about their actual scores. And hence be positive.

One more thing is that if a candidate who thinks that he or she would be around the verge of the cutoff and hence he or she is having a very little chances of selection, is wrong.

Bank has called you for a personal interaction really means that the bank believes that even if you have scored a bit lesser marks (which no one knows till the last moment) you stand a very good chance of selection. Otherwise bank wouldn’t have  bothered you to travel from your city to appear for  a PI at their specified location. You stand a chance of selection and that all.

Although I am a firm believer of the fact that if a candidate has done exceptionally well in the written then even if he or she makes a few mistakes in the interview, the selection is sureshot.

I would illustrate like this.

Candidate A: He has been a scholar in his school and in the college. And he expects that he must have been among the top 10-20% of the candidates who are shortlisted for the interview.
This candidate, although very intelligent academically, lacks self-confidence and qualities like leadership, team work and public speaking.
Candidate B:  He has been an average student and thinks that even when he has got the interview call, he has a very little chance of selection because his score might be near the cutoff.
But as far as the personality is concerned, this one is as per the mark.

Here,
I must say that if any of you believe that atleast one of these candidates would not be selected then you are wrong.
Check this out:
Candidate A
Written 170 out of 200 (Written cutoff 109 marks)
and 15 marks out of 50 in GD and PI (cutoff 12 marks)
Total Marks for candidate A: 185 (final cutoff 149 marks)

Now,
Candidate B
Written 110 out of 200 (Written cutoff 109 marks)
and 45 marks out of 50 in GD and PI (cutoff 12 marks)
Total Marks for candidate B: 155 (final cutoff 149 marks)

Does it makes a sense, or should I illustrate more?
I mean to say if one has really done exceptionally well in the written phase, no one can expel him out if his or her personality is atleast enough to fetch a few marks.
And Even if a candidate has scored average, If his interpersonal skills are outstanding then also he would get selected.
So cheer up, you have a chance, now smile,
God Bless
Rest in next post
